Three young female friends of my lodger are in my kitchen debating in urgent, earnest voices, the issues of gender, race and climate, when the one with excellent eyeliner flicks turns to sexuality: specifically bisexuality. On all the other topics I feel averagely well informed — informed enough to have one ear on them and the other on a radio programme about taking up hemlines to repurpose old clothes.
